Reiki

Reiki means Universal Life Force Energy in Japanese, and is a healing modality discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900s. It is a simple, yet powerful technique, offered by “laying on of hands”. Treatments may also be offered directly if in the same room or remotly at a distance of many miles.

During the last decades, Reiki's popularity as a complementary therapy has grown in the Western world, along with yoga, meditation, and acupuncture. The benefits of all these disciplines have been researched and well documented and nowadays Reiki is accepted in many hospitals around North America as a complementary treatment for humans.

Several studies have shown that Reiki treatments help diminish the negative side effects of chemotherapy, improve surgical outcomes, regulate the autonomic nervous system, and dramatically alter people's experience of physical and emotional pain associated with illness.

Although most of the studies have been related to the human species, other species, domestic and wild, are generally very receptive and respond just as well or better to this kind of therapy.
